The ya pear is a type of nashi. The ya pear is Ellipse shapesd with a greenish yellow skin and white, juicy flesh that is sweet with a slight tartness. The skin feels slightly rough like a pear rather than smooth like an apple.
Rinse, dry and eat whole as you would an apple or pear or slice and serve on a cheese platter or tossed through a fruit salad. Puree the flesh and use in tropical cocktails and drinks. Ya pears hold their shape well during cooking so are ideal poached, baked, grilled or pan-fried in a little butter.
